About The Position

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a dedicated Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 2 to provide essential treatment, counseling, and support services to inmates at the State Correctional Institution at Pine Grove. In this role, you will play a vital part in promoting rehabilitation, reducing recidivism, and supporting incarcerated individuals as they work toward recovery and successful reentry. Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of para-professional and one year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"; or
  • Two years of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 credits in the behavioral sciences; or
  • One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a master's degree with major coursework in addictions science, psychology or social work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead therapeutic groups, support recovery activities, and promote positive behavioral change
  • Maintain case files, develop treatment plans, and organize counseling schedules
  • Provide individual and group counseling and coordinate with community and facility resources
  • Conduct assessments and make recommendations based on policy and inmate history
  • Oversee voluntary recovery meetings and assist inmates with enrollment and participation
  • Provide direction to new staff, students, or volunteers and complete required training
