About The Position

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a dedicated Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 to provide essential treatment, counseling, and support services to inmates at the State Correctional Institution at Pine Grove. In this role, you will play a vital part in promoting rehabilitation, reducing recidivism, and supporting incarcerated individuals as they work toward recovery and successful reentry. Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • One year of para-professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"
  • One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences
  • A master's degree with major course work in addictions science, psychology or social work
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with developing treatment plans and providing individual and group counseling
  • Maintain treatment records and prepare required summaries in accordance with regulations
  • Conduct assessments to help determine treatment needs under supervisory guidance
  • Collaborate with treatment teams and attend required meetings to support coordinated care
  • Participate in mandatory training to maintain skills related to counseling and safety
