About The Position

The Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 for the Department of Corrections offers a meaningful way to support individuals working toward recovery. You will participate in structured programs, maintain accurate documentation, and work with a multidisciplinary team. As a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy, you will perform the following duties: Treatment Support: Assist in preparing individualized plans and providing supervised counseling sessions. Group Facilitation: Lead assigned therapeutic groups and help form new groups as needed. Record Keeping: Maintain treatment records and complete required summaries in accordance with regulations. Assessment Assistance: Conduct assessments with supervisor guidance to develop appropriate recommendations. Team Participation: Take part in team meetings with staff involved in inmate care and programming. Training Participation: Attend required training to develop counseling knowledge and position skills.

Requirements

  • One year of para-professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"
  • One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences
  • A master's degree with major course work in addictions science, psychology or social work
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
  • Be able to perform essential job functions
  • Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
