About The Position
As a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 2 with the Department of Corrections, you become part of a team dedicated to guiding meaningful rehabilitation. Requirements
- One year of para-professional and one year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"
- One year of experience as a Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
- Two years of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 credits in the behavioral sciences
- One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a master's degree with major coursework in addictions science, psychology or social work
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required
- Must meet the PA residency requirement
- Must be able to perform essential job functions
- Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
Responsibilities
- Lead therapeutic community and outpatient treatment groups using established curricula
- Maintain detailed case histories and treatment plans for assigned individuals
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions in line with policies and procedures
- Complete assessments and make informed recommendations based on departmental guidelines
- Oversee voluntary recovery meetings and manage related enrollment and attendance
- Provide guidance to new staff and participate in required training to maintain skills
