About The Position
The Drug and Alcohol Treatment Specialist 1 position with the Department of Corrections (DOC) offers a meaningful opportunity to help individuals move forward in their recovery. Requirements
- One year of para-professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting; and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"
- One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
- One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences
- A master's degree with major course work in addictions science, psychology or social work
- An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required
- Meet the PA residency requirement
- Be able to perform essential job functions
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements
Responsibilities
- Guide individuals in developing treatment and recovery plans and provide supervised counseling sessions
- Lead group therapy and facilitate community meetings and encounter groups based on assigned program needs
- Maintain patient treatment records and complete required summaries in line with regulations
- Conduct assessments for individuals needing evaluation and recommend appropriate steps
- Take part in meetings with supervisors and multidisciplinary staff involved in inmate care
- Attend required safety, counseling, and crisis training to develop and maintain job skills
