Driving School Instructor
About The Position
AAA is hiring full-time Driving School Instructors to educate teens and adults in safe driving. Instructors receive training to teach both in the classroom and behind the wheel, using the AAA Driving School curriculum and training program. The role focuses on creating a positive learning environment and helping students develop safe, responsible driving habits. Paid licensing and training are provided, along with tuition assistance, a competitive hourly salary, and eligibility for an incentive program after the first year. Instructors can schedule their own work week, while accommodating student availability, including weekday schedules that may start as late as 12 p.m. during the school year and teaching at least one weekend day per week.
Requirements
- Be at least 21 years old with four years of driving experience.
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
- Pass a background check and drug test.
- Have comprehensive knowledge of state and local traffic laws, ordinances, safety policies, and procedures.
- Have basic skills in Word and Excel for scheduling students and completing reports.
- Be confident interacting with the public, particularly teens.
- Have strong motivation to improve safe driving practices.
- Be flexible to accommodate student availability, including weekday schedules starting as late as 12 p.m. during the school year and teaching at least one weekend day per week.
Responsibilities
- Conduct classroom and behind-the-wheel training for drivers of all ages and experience levels according to the AAA Driving School curriculum and training program.
- Use driving school software to record and maintain student progress.
- Evaluate student performance and provide additional support as needed.
- Schedule driving appointments.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of state DMV laws and regulations, safe driving practices, and defensive driving practices.
- Maintain all records required by the state of Portland, ME.
