About The Position

With little direct supervision, frequently at "satellite" locations, provides classroom instruction and assistance to defendants who are court-ordered to complete National Safety Council defensive driving courses. Ensures that course materials, teaching aids, and necessary classroom equipment are on hand to conduct assigned classes at assigned locations. Performs routine clerical tasks related to the administration of assigned classes. This position is 8 hours per month.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a high school diploma.
  • Must be a certified law enforcement officer.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older and a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must maintain a good driving record with the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
  • Certification by the National Safety Council as a DDC Instructor for assigned classes, or willingness/ability to obtain certification is required.
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony, crime of moral turpitude, or a driving offense involving alcohol or other drugs.
  • Applicant must pass pre-employment drug test.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior speaking, lesson plan development and classroom teaching experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs participants regarding safety rules and regulations governing National Safety Council defensive driving courses ensuring course materials, teaching aids are used properly and as required.
  • Performs routine clerical tasks related to the administration of assigned classes including attendance and course completion documentation.
  • Generate and distribute "certificates of completion" to course participants, and deliver these and other documents to the Alternative Sentencing and Release or Court Clerk's Office as may be required.
