The German Consulate General in Chicago is seeking to fill the position of a Driver for an initial period of one year, starting October 1, 2026, with the possibility of extension. The core area of work involves driving the Consul General and the staff of the Consulate General, performing care and maintenance of the office car, running errands in the city, handling shipments to and from Chicago’s airports, and assisting with administrative tasks in the offices of the Consulate General. The employment contract will initially be fixed-term for one year and includes a six-month probationary period. The contract may become permanent after two years. Employment terms and compensation are governed by local law and based on the standard employment contract for locally employed staff at German diplomatic missions in the United States and the applicable pay scale. Following a successful selection process, candidates must demonstrate medical fitness for employment through an examination conducted by a physician designated by the Consulate General before they can be hired. In addition, a security clearance/background check will be conducted. Applicants are expected to cooperate fully with both the medical examination and the security screening process. Applicants who are not U.S. citizens are required to have a legal residence status in the US (Green Card or Visa) and a pre-existing US work authorization that does not require German Consulate General sponsorship.
