About The Position

Skills Inc. is seeking an experienced Driver to join their team. The role involves driving a light delivery truck (under 26,000 GVW) for the pick-up and delivery of aircraft parts and other related materials. Skills Inc. is a nonprofit organization with a social mission to train, employ, and serve persons with disabilities and their community, and is one of Washington State's largest aerospace suppliers.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English through verbal communication, American Sign Language, or adaptive technology
  • Must be a "U.S. person" as defined by ITAR regulations (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or admitted as a refugee or asylee).
  • Constant sitting while driving.
  • Constant use of legs and arms to operate a vehicle.
  • Frequent climbing in and out of trucks and other vehicles.
  • Frequent lifting and moving up to 25lbs.
  • Occasional exposure to chemicals, odors, and fumes.
  • Occasional lifting and moving up to 40lbs.
  • Occasional standing and walking.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Ability to operate a forklift or be willing to be trained and become certified.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and directly to customers, co-workers, and supervisory personnel both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to utilize interpersonal and communication techniques, working in a team environment, and dealing with a wide variety of personalities and communication styles.
  • Skill in prioritizing and managing a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to take direction from lead and supervisor to complete assigned tasks.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Prior delivery driving experience.

Responsibilities

  • Verify load against shipping papers.
  • Drive truck to outside customer locations and deliver/pick up customer orders and supplies.
  • Inspect truck equipment and vital fluids daily, keeping all filled to manufacturer’s recommendations, and fill out daily and weekly preventative maintenance logs.
  • Maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive delivery instructions.
  • Load and unload trucks in a manner to ensure all parts and supplies are protected against damage.
  • Sign all paperwork relevant to the work picked up.
  • Develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with Skills Inc. employees and customers’ representatives.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency.
