About The Position

Under general supervision, the Driver - Transit Vehicle Operator operates transit vehicles to deliver fixed-route, paratransit, on-demand, commuter, and special transportation services. This position is responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional transportation of passengers while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and agency regulations, policies, and procedures. The Transit Vehicle Operator serves as a frontline representative of the City and is expected to maintain the highest standards of customer service, professionalism, safety, and reliability.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Possession of a valid class "C" Texas Commercial Driver's License or higher with Passenger Endorsement.
  • Must maintain physical condition, as monitored by periodic CDL re-examinations, which allows completion of all assigned duties.
  • Possess a clean driving record and maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of all applicable traffic laws, safety regulations, and transportation requirements governing the movement of passengers.
  • No moving violations within the preceding three (3) years.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, customer service, conflict-resolution, and communication skills.
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment substance abuse screening.
  • Must successfully pass the DOT CDL physical exam and maintain a physical condition, as monitored by periodic CDL re-examinations, which allows completion of all assigned duties.
  • A motor vehicle record check will be required.

  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs.
  • May be required to work mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, split shifts, and extended hours.
  • Must be willing and able to work special events, emergency operations, disaster response activities, and community functions as assigned.

  • Assists passengers with boarding, exiting, and securing mobility devices.
  • Performs vehicle inspections, safety checks, cleaning activities, and fueling procedures.
  • Completes all required Transit Operator training programs.
