Solid Waste Driver Operator

About The Position

Lake County Solid Waste is hiring a full-time Driver Operator to transport and handle waste containers, operate heavy equipment, and perform landfill duties. The position has a varied schedule and requires weekend work. It is covered by a union agreement and is subject to drug and alcohol testing under FMCSA guidelines. The position will remain open until filled, with applications reviewed weekly until a successful applicant is selected.

Requirements

Valid Class B CDL and an acceptable driving record.
At least 1 year of CDL driving experience in winter conditions.
Obtain a Class A CDL by the end of the probationary period if hired with a Class B CDL.
Ability to safely and skillfully operate large trucks and heavy equipment.
Ability to perform minor repairs and maintenance on trucks and equipment.
Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather and temperatures.
Ability to work well with the public and coworkers.
Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to commercial motor vehicle operation.
Ability to lift 80 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Class A CDL.
Roll-off and pup trailer experience.

Responsibilities

Drive a transfer truck to container sites.
Set empty containers, consolidate loaded containers, retrieve loaded containers, and deliver and unload containers.
Clean the area around container sites and clean the truck and trailer.
Perform minor maintenance on equipment.
Operate heavy equipment, move and compact waste, and perform landfill duties, including working at the ticket shack.
Perform other duties as assigned.
