Solid Waste Driver/Operator

About The Position

Lake County Solid Waste is hiring a full-time Driver / Operator. The position drives transfer trucks to container sites, handles containers and waste, operates heavy equipment, and performs landfill duties. The schedule varies and includes weekends. The position is union-covered and subject to drug and alcohol testing under FMCSA guidelines. Applications will be reviewed weekly until the position is filled.

Requirements

Possess a valid Class B CDL and an acceptable driving record.
Have at least 1 year of CDL driving experience in winter conditions.
If hired with a Class B CDL, obtain a Class A CDL by the end of the probationary period.
Be able to operate large trucks and heavy equipment safely and skillfully.
Be able to conduct minor repairs and maintenance on trucks and equipment.
Be able to work outdoors in extreme weather and temperatures.
Be able to work well with the public and coworkers.
Be knowledgeable of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to commercial motor vehicle operation.
Be able to lift 80 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Class A CDL.
Roll-off and pup trailer experience.

Responsibilities

Drive transfer trucks to container sites.
Set empty containers, consolidate loaded containers, retrieve loaded containers, and deliver and unload containers.
Clean areas around container sites, as well as trucks and trailers.
Perform minor maintenance on equipment.
Operate heavy equipment and move and compact waste.
Perform landfill duties, including working at the ticket shack.
Perform other duties as assigned.
