About The Position

The Driver Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of drivers, ensuring safety, operational performance, customer satisfaction, employee engagement, and economic performance. This role involves managing driver schedules, addressing absenteeism, conducting performance evaluations, fostering a positive team environment, and maintaining compliance with union agreements and company policies. The position requires a strong understanding of transit operations, safety regulations, and employee relations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Management of frontline employees with accountability for safety and performance.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training and experience.
  • Knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of transit operations.
  • Knowledge of driver scheduling practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations regarding transit operations.
  • Knowledge of vehicle operations and safety.
  • Knowledge of principles of training and development.
  • Must currently hold or obtain a Class B Commercial Drivers License with P endorsement.
  • Work well as part of a team.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Customer-focused with the ability to inspire your team with commitment and enthusiasm.
  • Exercise good judgment and creativity in decision-making.
  • Interact professionally with all levels of KTA employees, client representatives, and community members.

  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and a physical examination.
  • Completion of a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for driver group safety performance, ensuring adherence to safety policies and regulations.
  • Create and maintain a just culture where employees are treated fairly and understand their contribution to safety.
  • Improve safety by identifying and acting upon opportunities for individual driver retraining.
  • Manage a team of approximately 30-50 drivers.
  • Manage absenteeism and address unplanned absenteeism issues.
  • Review event video for incident and performance investigations.
  • Conduct field supervision to assess driver performance and competence.
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations and deliver regular driver scorecard results.
  • Accountable for the driver group’s contribution to the overall customer experience.
  • Lead a customer-oriented culture where drivers 'think like a passenger'.
  • Assist in the investigation of and response to customer comments.
  • Build positive relationships with drivers and lead an engaging culture.
  • Create a positive, collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Provide one-on-one coaching to improve safety, performance, engagement, and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide regular driver recognition and feedback.
  • Work with KTA resources to recruit, interview, onboard, train, and retain qualified drivers.
  • Understand and monitor compliance with the ratified CBA.
  • Manage union relationships to be productive and enable win-win outcomes.
  • Handle union grievance responses.
  • Address driver performance issues, providing coaching and/or disciplinary action when appropriate.
  • Ensure communication of KTA instructions and directives to drivers.
  • Act as a liaison between drivers and other departments.
  • Drive improvement in the employee experience through improvements in KPIs like driver turnover and unplanned absenteeism.
  • Manage recruiting and training expenses by limiting driver turnover.
  • Contribute to the overall improvement of the location’s financial performance.
