Requirements

  • One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
  • Active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Twenty-one years of age at the time of application.
  • No suspensions or revocations of a driver’s license during the five year period immediately preceding employment.
  • Must obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver’s license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment (for employees hired after February 28, 2022).
  • Possession of an active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver’s License or equivalent with P and N endorsements.
  • Commercial Driver License cannot have any of the following restrictions: E, L, N, O, or Z.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Submission of criminal history reports is required for a conditional offer of employment.
  • Undergo and pass a Fingerprint and Name-Based Criminal History Check prior to employment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct standardized skills and knowledge tests for Commercial and Non-Commercial Driver License applicants
  • Evaluate applicant driving abilities, physical readiness, and vehicle conditions against established safety standards
  • Review applications and related documents for accuracy and investigate possible irregularities or fraud
  • Check vehicles for required safety features such as inspection stickers, lighting, and windshield wipers
  • Perform vision screenings and CDL-related exams, including knowledge, pre-trip, and driving tests
  • Monitor Third Party Examiners and Driver Education teachers for compliance with testing requirements
