About The Position

This role involves a dual responsibility of driving and providing direct patient care within a behavioral health setting. The Driver/Behavioral Health Associate is responsible for safely transporting patients, staff, and supplies using company vehicles. Additionally, the associate will assist in maintaining a safe, supportive, and structured environment for patients, observing their behaviors, assisting with daily living activities, obtaining vital signs, and facilitating educational groups. Accurate documentation of all activities, including transportation logs and patient medical records, is crucial. The position requires a commitment to patient safety, excellent customer service, and a positive, empathetic attitude.

Requirements

  • Valid State Driver’s License required.
  • CPR certification required.
  • De-escalation/restraint certification required.
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up or transport visitors or staff as needed.
  • Transport patients for admissions and discharges.
  • Ensure all passengers are wearing seatbelts before the vehicle is started.
  • Drive company facility vehicle to pick-up supplies or equipment, as needed.
  • Respond and adhere to "on call" schedule as required.
  • Accurately and appropriately complete all transportation documentation.
  • Maintain vehicle log(s) and report maintenance issues to appropriate facility staff.
  • Ensure all company vehicles are kept clean and functional.
  • Demonstrate a positive, empathetic and professional attitude towards customers always.
  • Acknowledge and work to resolve complaints when patient needs are not met.
  • Recognize that patient safety is a top priority.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency related to the importance of patient safety and provide excellent customer services.
  • Ensure the well-being of patients and provide a positive, supportive and structured environment.
  • Conduct safety checks and ensure that supervision is conducted at 15-minute intervals, as noted in special precautions, or in accordance with individualized supervision guidelines as needed.
  • Document timely, accurate and appropriate clinical information in patient's medical record.
  • Assist in providing a safe, secure and comfortable environment for patients, significant others and staff.
  • Interact routinely with patients, observe behaviors and communicate significant observations to nursing staff.
  • Oversee or assist patients with activities of daily living, including toileting, bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, meals, snacks, hydration and changing bed linens.
  • Obtain patient's vital signs, height and weight as assigned and document in patient record.
  • Facilitate patient educational-rehabilitative groups which cover a variety of topics including social skills, coping skills, anger management and independent living skills.
  • Engage patients in activities and interactions designed to encourage achievement of treatment goals.
  • Complete and maintain required documentation.
  • Assist with follow-up and paperwork as required on incidents and events that may take place in the facility.
  • Provide transportation for patient or coordinate transportation with appropriate staff member.
  • Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
