About The Position

This position involves operating a draw-in machine, which includes tasks such as preparing the warp, reading pattern chains, checking for quality, and assisting with unloading the machine. The operator is responsible for performing preventative maintenance on machines and observing safety precautions. Additionally, the role requires directing machine helpers on material needs and performing other assigned functions.

Requirements

  • Standing for 11 hours on concrete floor.
  • Sitting for 1 hour for breaks and personal time.
  • Moving up and down throughout entire shift moving separation rods between heddles to finish cycle of machine.
  • Climbing up and down ladder approximately 48 times/shift.
  • Pushing 1,500-2,000 lbs. on wheels 5 times/shift for 400 ft. (2 men required).
  • Must be able to hear prontow alarm from a distance of 10 feet.
  • Ability to hear and speak to department personnel for job-related duties.
  • Must be able to reach approximately 40 inches (height) repeatedly throughout shift.
  • Must be able to read normal print.
  • Must be able to identify quality problems with pattern.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors.
  • Must meet vision requirements for industrial licensure.
  • Bend over warp to check lease 5 times/shift, 30 inches above floor level.
  • Fingering: Must be able to feed heddles as warp is being drawn.
  • Wear safety glasses when cutting out a bad heddle/dropwire.
  • Wear hearing protection in designated areas.
  • Shoes must cover entire foot, heel to toe.
  • No jewelry allowed.
  • Hair below shoulders must be pulled back and pinned up.
  • Do not blow off clothes with air hose.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Industrial truck license.
  • Qualified Barber-Coleman helper.
  • Computer knowledge.
  • Must be able to work assigned schedule and shift with minimal absences.
  • Must be able to tolerate non-toxic odors.

Responsibilities

  • Checks machine for possible mechanical malfunctions.
  • Lubricates machine regularly to help achieve optimum efficiency.
  • Prepare warp to be drawn.
  • Read pattern chains and repair stops as necessary. Cut new pattern chain if necessary.
  • When pattern complete, check for quality and assist in unloading machine.
  • Performs P.M. on machines as required by P.M. program on head drives.
  • Observes safety precautions as established by the department and participates in department safety program.
  • Directs machine helpers as to the amount and kind of material needed.
