The Drafter uses CAD equipment to provide support to Engineers by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, and diagrams. This role involves placing views of designs to include all dimensions and information necessary for manufacture, 3D modeling of parts and assemblies for designs, and assisting in maintaining parts and drawing libraries. The Drafter will also make copies of drawings and maintain information regarding changes to the database, make decisions with the support from Engineers and/or Supervisor, and work as part of a team. Additionally, the Drafter provides shop support on information regarding drawing details.

Requirements

  • High school with Associate's degree in Computer Aided Drafting and math, and/or equivalent experience and training.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before employees of the organization.
  • Analytical – Gathers, analyzes and applies information to model and modify components.
  • Proficiency with CAD software: 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D (Inventor), Autodesk Products or ability to switch from competing software quickly.
  • Able to read and interpret written information and vendor drawings.
  • Supports everyone's efforts to succeed.
  • Ability to understand file structure, email and internet security as well as basic usage of Microsoft Office software and Windows 11 working environments.
  • Promptness and on time, self starter, self sufficient.
  • Ability to work with mathematical basics and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry and algebra.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal apply to drawings and 3D models.
  • Familiarity with CAD equipment, spreadsheet software and Word Processing software, file structure, email and internet security, and basic Windows/Office environments.

Responsibilities

  • Uses computer assisted design/drafting (Inventor, AutoCad) equipment and software to develop 2D CAD and 3D Inventor drawings, including dimensions, balloons, Bills of Materials, and 3D model creation.
  • Uses database and version control software (Vault).
  • Responsible for drawing checking which would include: dimensioning, materials to be used based on Engineer’s specifications, fabrication instructions, Bill of Materials, quantities and weld symbols.
  • Makes minor corrections to pipe lengths, Materials, fittings and flanges.
  • Create views within models to show details as required.
  • Drawing checking of drawings by others.
  • Responsible for maintaining an organized file system for Production Drawings and following existing standards.
  • Communicate with QC, Engineering, Production, and Field Service regarding new and revised prints.
  • Routinely produce accurate drawings promptly and efficiently.
  • Ability to complete CAD drawings independently in a timely manner to company and customer standards.
