Entry-Level CAD/Drafter

McLaughlin Research Corporation•Newport, RI

About The Position

McLaughlin Research Corp. has an opening for an entry-level Drafter/CAD Operator. The position prepares drawings or computer models of simple, easily visualized structures, systems, parts, or equipment from sketches or marked-up prints. The Drafter/CAD Operator selects appropriate templates or computer programs, or uses a compass and other equipment needed to complete assignments. Drawings and models follow familiar patterns and present few technical problems. A supervisor provides detailed instructions for new assignments, offers guidance when questions arise, and reviews completed work for accuracy. Examples of assignments include revising plumbing-system drawings by increasing pipe diameters; drawing building floor plans from sketches and determining the size, spacing, and arrangement of freehand lettering according to scale; drawing simple land profiles from predetermined structural dimensions and reduced survey notes; tracing river-basin maps and entering symbols for stream sampling locations, waste discharges, and water supplies; and preparing computer models of rooms, buildings, or structures from data, prints, or photographs.
