About The Position

The Downline Operator I is responsible for the operations of the Downline Packaging equipment, including the Cap Applicator, Cardboard Case Packer, and Accumulators. This role also involves learning the basic functionality of coders. The operator ensures the efficient operation of distribution equipment, supports maintenance activities, and follows instructions to meet quality and efficiency standards. Key responsibilities include safety, quality, and effective communication relevant to shift and plant performance. This position may also fill in for vacations and cover absences of other employees.

Requirements

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Able to troubleshoot and resolve moderate to complex issues.
  • Accurate and detailed record keeping and legible handwriting.
  • Understands procedures for all allergens and how to prevent cross-contamination.
  • Must adhere to all GMPs and Safety Procedures established by Management.
  • Must be able to stand for 12 hours for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of up to 50 lbs frequently.
  • Must be able to move rolling tubs occasionally in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to push/pull pallet jacks with heavy loads.
  • Work 12 hours as required, as well as any overtime that may be scheduled.
  • Maintain a good attendance record.
  • Good personal hygiene.
  • Performs Quality Assurance checks on cartons and cases verifying package integrity.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills lending to a team environment.
  • Minimum of 90 days of distribution equipment experience.

Responsibilities

  • Complies with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Monitors and fixes faults, and clears material jams in equipment.
  • Conducts required quality checks to assure standards are met.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Maintains communications within the production team, ensuring smooth shift transitions.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves basic to moderate operating difficulties involving area equipment.
  • Assists maintenance technicians with routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Supports mechanics in appropriate maintenance activities.
  • Monitors Work-In-Progress (WIP) material and supplies to ensure efficient production.
  • Uses Oracle systems to accurately scan material being consumed.
  • Relieves other production team members for breaks and absences as required.
  • Accurately prepares and maintains all area codes and paperwork.
  • Sets up oncoming shifts for success by leaving the area clean, organized, and stocked.
  • Adheres to all plant safety rules.
  • Reports all near misses and accidents to the production supervisor and/or HR representative.
  • Participates in monthly safety inspections and reports potential safety hazards.
  • Follows SOPs and SSOPs when performing machine adjustments.
  • Ensures compliance with GMPs, HACCP, and SQF programs.
  • Assists maintenance technicians during maintenance activities.
  • Reports equipment in a state of disrepair ASAP to avoid breakdowns.
  • Cooperates with other shifts and management in housekeeping endeavors.
  • Ensures effective shift communication and teamwork with other operators.
  • Maintains effective communication with members of the support group.
  • Uses Handheld radios professionally and respectfully.
  • Promotes and contributes to the development of a strong team.
  • Works well among co-workers as a team.
  • Assists in coaching and training employees as requested by management.
  • Continuously improves knowledge of the downline area.
  • Becomes familiar with SunOpta 360.
  • Completes and adheres to the annual alchemy schedule.
