DOTD Program Specialist 1-3 (Airport Inspector)

About The Position

Implements and coordinates the statewide airport and heliport inspection program, landing area registration program, obstruction analysis program, uncrewed aerial systems program, and aviation geographic information system to ensure airport compliance with federal and state regulations, guidelines and policies. Requirements

  • Three years of experience in the development, implementation, or administration of a transportation or safety program; or in engineering, architecture, geography, human resources, financial operations, information technology, risk management, policy planning, or administrative services; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR A bachelor's degree.
  • Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

  • Implements and coordinates the statewide landing area registration and inspection programs to ensure airport compliance with federal and state regulations, guidelines and policies.
  • Conducts thorough physical reviews of runways, taxiways, lighting systems, approach clearances, navigational aids, service facilities, obstruction analysis and other areas that may pose a hazard to public safety.
  • Reports discrepancies to airport management and airport sponsors and enters all appropriate data into the federal airport data information portal.
  • Reviews airport layout plans and airport master plans.
  • Reviews and recommends approval of all applications for airport, heliport and vertiport landing area registration in accordance with federal and state statutes, regulations, guidelines and policies.
  • Coordinates with the Federal Aviation Administration officials on all aspects of standardized criterion for airport safety standards.
