Requirements

  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in DOT compliance, fleet safety, or transportation operations.
  • Experience working with FMCSA regulations and DOT audits is required.
  • Proficiency in compliance management systems (e.g., JJ Keller, Lytx, Infiniti).
  • Familiarity with ELD platforms and telematics systems.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities.
  • As this is a people-facing position, strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • High School Diploma or GED required

Nice To Haves

  • Smith System Trainer Certification is a plus.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field preferred is a plus.
  • Certified Director of Safety (CDS) – National Safety Council Preferred
  • Certified Transportation Professional (CTP) – National Private Truck Council Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and interpret changes in FMCSA, DOT, and state transportation regulations; ensure timely updates to internal guidelines and procedures with assigned locations
  • Conduct regular internal audits of driver qualification files (DQFs), vehicle inspection and maintenance records, and HOS logs.
  • Prepare for and manage external audits and compliance reviews by DOT or other regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in accordance with 49 CFR Parts 40, 382, 383, 390-399.
  • Ensure all drivers meet qualification standards, including valid CDL, medical certification, MVR checks, and background screening.
  • Track and manage driver compliance with training, certifications, and endorsements.
  • Monitor driver behavior using telematics and ELD systems; flag and investigate violations or unsafe driving patterns.
  • Coordinate corrective action plans and retraining as needed.
  • Oversee compliance with HOS regulations, including daily log reviews and exception reporting.
  • Manage ELD systems (e.g. Platform Science) and provide training and support to drivers and dispatchers.
  • Identify and resolve log discrepancies, falsifications, or violations.
  • Assist in the investigation of DOT-reportable accidents and incidents.
  • Assist CMC locations and Risk Management with accident claims and property damage claims.
  • Support root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for drivers, dispatchers, and managers on DOT compliance topics.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and point of contact for all DOT-related inquiries.
  • Collaborate with HR, Operations and Safety teams to align compliance efforts with broader organizational goals.
