About The Position

SunState Medical Specialists (SMS) is part of OneOncology, delivering community-based specialty care across Florida with a team of 105 physicians in various medical fields. SMS is committed to providing high-quality, accessible care, expanding services to include advanced radiation therapies, in-house pharmacy and laboratory capabilities, care management, theranostics, cutting-edge diagnostic imaging, and clinical research. The Dosimetrist reports directly to the Dosimetry Manager in their Division and is expected to demonstrate flexibility, prioritize, and manage time effectively in a demanding environment, consistently role-modeling the company's purpose and values. This role focuses on driving a culture of continuous improvement and delivering exceptional patient-centered services, specifically managing all requests for treatment planning processes to ensure high-quality outcomes and rapid access to treatment. The Dosimetrist will embrace innovation to improve access to higher quality treatments, support clinical trials and research, actively participate in the SunState Medical Specialists Dosimetry Competency and Credentialing Framework, and work within approved scope of practice models. They will also identify and develop key internal and external relationships, opportunities for future service provisions, and potential referrer or doctor partnerships, acting as a representative of the SunState Medical Specialists purpose, values, and strategy.

Requirements

  • Professional Certification (or requirements for certification)
  • Must have basic computer and typing skills
  • Completion/Participation in SunState Medical Specialists Credentialing and Scope of Practice Programs.
  • Basic understanding of the technical aspects of radiation oncology, medical physics, and tolerance doses to derive computerized treatment plans
  • Working knowledge of radiation safety and correct use of immobilization devices and other treatment variables
  • Experience with IMRT, VMAT, SRS, SBRT, IGRT. CT/MR based HDR
  • Proven ability to work within cross functional multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Proven ability to manage internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Travel when required to other sites and/or leadership meetings.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate of Science or bachelor’s degree in the physical or biological sciences
  • ARRT/RT(T) certification
  • 1 to >5 years of experience in medical dosimetry under the supervision of a Certified Medical Dosimetrist or Medical Physicist
  • Specific Experience with the Following: All Preferred Monaco/ Mosaiq Eclipse/ARIA Elekta and Varian linacs
  • Graduate level qualifications in a relevant area – a either Health care or business related.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Dosimetry in line with Divisional requirements and operate within your defined scope of practice (scope of practice defined by competency framework).
  • Implement approved treatment plans in accordance with protocols and policies that will deliver the radiation prescription.
  • Deliver plans in-line with global benchmarks that align on quality, access, and efficiency.
  • Communicate these aspects to physician for plan approval, and to the Radiation Therapist for plan implementation.
  • Document the prescription in patient’s record in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's intent and instructions.
  • Supervise, perform, or assist in the production of associated devices.
  • Assist the therapy staff in the implementation of the treatment plan and problem solving including: the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators wedges, field arrangement, or other treatment variables as well as image guided radiotherapy or respiratory gating.
  • Complete all specified quality assurance treatment planning processes to ensure high quality plan delivery and minimization or risk and harm.
  • Complete all specified quality assurance recording requirements on a weekly and at end of treatment basis.
  • Supervise, perform, or assist in the application of specific methods of dosimetry including ion chamber, TLD, or film measurement as directed by the Medical Physicist.
  • Maintain licensure, undertake mandatory and professional development to practice safely and in accordance with all professional and regulatory requirements.
  • Teach applied aspects of medical dosimetry to students and residents, as assigned.
  • Practice and Follow Privacy (NSA) and HIPPA guidelines.
  • Assist with the planning and participate in supporting programs to ensure effective and safe use of radiation and radionuclides in patients.
  • Interacts with patients, staff and other stakeholders in a way that embraces all 5 SunState Medical Specialists values.
  • Attends mandatory company training sessions as required by company policies and state/federal law where applicable.
