About The Position

For the students on your dorm, you're more than a manager — you're the person who makes their living space safe, clean, structured, and supportive. As Dorm Manager, you'll oversee the daily management of your dormitory, lead a residential team, and provide the individualized case management that keeps students enrolled, progressing, and on track to complete the Job Corps program. This is a leadership role for someone who blends genuine care for young people with sound judgment and strong management — and who knows that a well-run dorm is where retention, satisfaction, and student success truly begin. Job Corps is a transformative program that provides education, vocational training, and career readiness to young adults. In this role, you'll directly shape student retention and success — building supportive, mentoring relationships and leading the team and programs that make your dorm a place where students feel safe, welcomed, and motivated to achieve.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of one (1) year of Job Corps or related program experience
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds, or to assess a load and request assistance as needed
  • Physical requirements include sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, pulling and/or pushing, carrying, reaching, stooping, and crouching.
  • Demonstrates the ability to lift 40 pounds and / or the ability to assess the lift load in order to ask for necessary assistance.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate of Arts degree from an accredited school
  • A valid in-state driver's license

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage residential staff.
  • Coordinate staff coverage to keep student areas supervised — including maintaining an active list of substitute Residential Advisors to fill vacancies and callouts.
  • Interview and recommend candidates for hire, evaluate performance, fill vacancies promptly, ensure adherence to rest and meal break requirements, and provide required and supplemental training.
  • Provide comprehensive, individualized case management — in conjunction with counseling staff — to ensure student progress, retention, and completion of the program.
  • Establish supportive, mentoring relationships throughout students' enrollment, serve as an active member of case management and success teams, and oversee the student dorm leadership program.
  • Ensure the physical security of the dorm area and report concerns to senior management.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of incident and shift reports, maintain adequate inventory levels and proactively order supplies, and initiate work orders for repairs — following up with maintenance to ensure completion.
  • Employ sound time-management and delegation, hold staff accountable, develop them for career progression, and create a supportive, motivating work environment.
  • Develop community linkages for education, employment, Career Technical Training, and Work-Based Learning, and build meaningful relationships with elected officials.
  • Mentor and model the Career Success Standards, provide transportation as required, communicate clearly, resolve problems with sound judgment, partner across departments, and accept direction from the Center Director, Duty Officer, or Shift Manager, including other duties as assigned.
