About The Position

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Donor Centre Supervisor to join our dynamic Collections team in our ON-Ottawa-Carling Ave donor centre. The Collections Team is responsible for supporting Canadian Blood Services collecting donor blood in a safe manner to enable safe products which save lives every day. In this role, you will assist in the collection of blood and blood products ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and all required documentation is carried out. You will play an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, plus three years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to be proactive and take initiative.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Managerial experience and knowledge.
  • Superb leadership skills.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle for travel to clinic locations.
  • Availability to travel regularly around Ottawa to support mobile clinics.
  • Availability to work variable shifts - days, evenings, and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure adequate staffing resources.
  • Maintain Health Screening competencies (in some locations).
  • Ensure collection and quality control processes are performed in accordance with regulatory and corporate specifications.
  • Complete non-conformances and Reaction/Incident Reports in a timely manner and provide feedback to staff.
  • Observe trends and manage overtime, sick time, and absenteeism.
  • Interview and hire staff and manage staff performance.
  • Coach and mentor staff, and correct techniques such as venipuncture.
  • Assist in the collection of blood and blood products ensuring adherence to all safety protocols and all required documentation is carried out.
  • Play an integral part in building and promoting a positive donor experience and encouraging donations.
