About The Position

The Donation Support Coordinator works closely with hospital staff and organ procurement organizations to obtain medical information and assess potential donors. The role coordinates donor cases with hospitals, funeral homes, coroner’s offices, and other organizations, ensuring donor-related activities are handled professionally and accurately. The coordinator contacts donor families by phone to initiate and guide them through the paperwork required for donation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to type a minimum of 41 words per minute.
• Proficient knowledge of computers and business equipment.
• Experience in an applicable field, such as a funeral home, emergency dispatch, crisis hotline, call center, or medical assisting, or completed coursework in health and science fields.
• Ability to meet the required physical demands, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree or higher.
• Experience in a clinical health care field, tissue bank, or social work setting involving case management.
• Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment while managing competing tasks and demands.
• Critical thinking skills, including the ability to synthesize information from many sources and regulations.
• Ability to handle sensitive situations with poise, tact, and confidentiality.
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service.

Responsibilities

• Conduct preliminary screening of referrals for potential donation in a timely and professional manner, obtaining screening information from hospital or coroner staff and electronic medical records.
• Collect, interpret, and electronically document donor medical and social history, and assess donor eligibility under current policies and regulations.
• Screen medical information with the Director and/or Medical Director as required.
• Offer the opportunity of donation to potential donor families and complete required paperwork with the legal authorizing person.
• Facilitate the donation process for donor families and recovery teams.
• Provide prompt updates to funeral homes, hospital staff, coroner’s offices, and other relevant parties.
• Liaise with organ teams to facilitate organ, tissue, and/or eye donation.
• Provide after-hours services for internal and external customers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
