About The Position

The Donation Services Truck Driver Helper supports the Donation Services team in the safe, efficient, and professional collection of donated goods from residential and community locations. This position works alongside the Donation Services Driver to pick up donations, assist with community donation drives, deliver and retrieve donation trailer pods, and conduct neighborhood outreach. The Truck Driver Helper represents the organization in the community and is expected to provide friendly, courteous service while following all company safety procedures and operational guidelines. This position requires physical activity, including lifting and moving donated goods, operating material-handling equipment, walking neighborhoods, and assisting with loading and unloading vehicles and donation containers.

Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent work experience
  • 6 months customer service experience
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to be trained and take direction
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to speak and read English proficiently
  • Valid Arizona drivers' license and clean MVR
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screen, where applicable for position

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Donation Services Driver with residential and business donation pickups.
  • Safely load, unload, move, and organize donated goods in the truck and designated collection areas.
  • Assist with securing donated goods and ensuring loads are transported safely.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to donors.
  • Follow established procedures for handling donated goods and protecting donor property.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe truck and work area.
  • Communicate effectively with the driver and Donation Services team regarding pickup locations, special instructions, and potential safety concerns.
  • Assist with setup, operation, and breakdown of community donation drives.
  • Help unload and organize donation collection equipment and supplies.
  • Receive, sort, move, and load donated goods in accordance with established procedures.
  • Interact positively and professionally with members of the community and donors.
  • Assist with maintaining an orderly, safe, and welcoming donation collection area.
  • Walk assigned neighborhoods and distribute door hangers and other approved promotional materials.
  • Follow assigned routes and schedules while canvassing neighborhoods.
  • Represent the organization professionally while interacting with community members.
  • Follow all company guidelines regarding door-to-door outreach, property access, and placement of promotional materials.
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings and follow appropriate personal safety procedures while working in neighborhoods.
  • Assist with operating the company van to deliver and retrieve donation trailer pods for residential home pickups.
  • Assist with positioning and placement of donation trailer pods at designated locations.
  • Inspect the area for potential hazards before placing or retrieving a trailer pod.
  • Follow all procedures for safely connecting, disconnecting, moving, and positioning equipment.
  • Communicate with customers regarding trailer pod placement and pickup instructions as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of vehicle surroundings and use proper safety procedures when maneuvering in residential areas.
  • Safely operate pallet jacks, Toyota material-handling equipment, and forklifts as authorized and trained.
  • Move donated goods and materials safely within trucks, warehouses, donation sites, and other designated areas.
  • Perform pre-use inspections of equipment and report any damage, defects, or unsafe conditions.
  • Follow all required equipment-operation procedures and training requirements.
  • Never operate equipment without proper authorization and training.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and training requirements.
  • Use proper lifting techniques and personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Maintain a safe work environment for coworkers, donors, customers, pedestrians, and the general public.
  • Report accidents, injuries, property damage, equipment issues, and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Follow all applicable traffic, vehicle, workplace, and equipment-safety regulations.
  • Maintain situational awareness while working around moving vehicles, heavy equipment, donated goods, and members of the public.
  • Participate in required safety training and maintain all required certifications.
  • Follow proper procedures for lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, loading, and unloading materials.
