About The Position

LifeGift is seeking a Donation Clinical Specialist - Night Shift in Lubbock to coordinate the organ and tissue donation process. This role involves managing organ and tissue recovery, evaluating potential donors, medical management of donors, organ allocation, and preservation for transplantation. The specialist will work with a team to save lives and uphold the organization's values of Passion, Compassion, and Professionalism.

Requirements

  • Nurse (LPN, LVN, RN), Paramedic, Respiratory Therapist (RT), International Medical Graduate (IMG), or clinically equivalent experience in an OPO.
  • Must obtain BLS within six months of employment.
  • Must maintain certification through duration of employment.
  • Ability to attain Hospital Badge and EMR Access from all LifeGift Hospital Partners.

Nice To Haves

  • ADN and/or BSN
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a critical care setting.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to, evaluate, and screen potential donors according to LifeGift's established criteria.
  • Document and maintain medical information in the LifeGift medical record during the evaluation of potential and active donors, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and thoroughness.
  • Assess potential donor families' dynamics and collaborate with hospital staff and Family Care Specialists to facilitate conversations about organ and tissue donation.
  • Adhere to all current policies of LifeGift, Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN), and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Maintain confidentiality of potential donor information in accordance with LifeGift policies.
  • Obtain and maintain proficiency in using various medical records and databases necessary for daily operations.
  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of organ donor cases efficiently to maximize donation opportunities.
  • Collaborate with LifeGift and hospital resources (bedside nurse, respiratory therapist, physicians) to implement effective donor management and support, optimizing organ function according to LifeGift's Donor Management Protocols.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and basic knowledge of donor management.
  • Coordinate all aspects of organ recovery, including recovery team communication, operating room scheduling, and review of procedures with Donation Recovery Specialists and other involved parties.
  • Communicate and collaborate with LifeGift staff, hospital staff, medical examiner/justice of the peace, tissue recovery teams, and funeral homes regarding post-organ recovery processes, including post-mortem care.
  • Ensure all post-organ recovery documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner before chart closure.
