About The Position

The New York City Department of Social Services (DSS), through the Office of Domestic Violence and Emergency Intervention Services, is recruiting five Social Workers to serve as Domestic Violence Liaisons. The Office of Domestic Violence provides emergency shelter and social services to people affected by domestic violence and sexual assault, including crisis counseling, advocacy, and legal services. Its programs include domestic violence shelters and hotline services, the No Violence Again program, the Domestic Violence Liaison Unit, and other residential and community-based prevention and intervention programs. Domestic Violence Liaisons assess clients referred to Job Centers, explain rights and responsibilities, support safety planning, provide counseling and referrals, and monitor cases over time. The roles are based at listed centers in the Bronx, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan, or Queens, with coverage at other locations when needed. The stated schedule is 9–5 flex. This is a provisional appointment. Applicants must already be permanent in the Social Worker civil service title. When an examination becomes available in that title, the appointee must take and pass it to remain in the title. A New York State LMSW or LCSW license is required within one year of appointment and must be maintained during employment; failure to obtain it by 18 months of service results in termination. Candidates must have a master’s degree in social work from an accredited school.
