About The Position

CPI Domestic Violence Advocate (6350) works with staff from the Department of Children and Families Protective Investigations Division. This role provides training, technical assistance, and support to Child Protective Workers by helping to develop a protocol to manage domestic violence cases. The advocate serves as a resource for survivors of domestic violence and community partners involved in the child protection system. The position collaborates with community agencies to enhance domestic violence victim safety, increase batterer accountability, reduce child removals by non-offending parents, and decrease family re-entry into the child welfare system. The Victim Advocate provides counseling, follow-up, information and referral, personal advocacy, criminal justice support, emergency legal advocacy, telephone contact, and assistance with filing Victim Compensation claims to domestic violence victims.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a human service-related field, sociology, psychology, counseling, social work, criminology or related field.
  • Two years’ experience working with victims of domestic violence and or sexual assault OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid state driver’s license.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle in order to serve as advocate for victims at the hospital or police department and to transport victims to court related appointments.
  • Ability to be on-call to respond to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault as scheduled.
  • Ability to work some Holidays to ensure proper coverage of emergency shelter (will receive an alternate Holiday in lieu of official Holiday).

Responsibilities

  • Provides crisis intervention through telephone interviews, individual, and group counseling.
  • Provides information to participants regarding court proceedings, filing of injunctions, victim compensation, and relocation.
  • Participates in domestic violence case staff meetings with project partners and other community agency providers to assist in the development of compliance-based perpetrator safety plans.
  • Assists in the development of case plans that enhance survivor and child safety while holding the abuser accountable for their violence.
  • Provides support and referral services for survivors of domestic violence where there is an open child abuse investigation.
  • Assists clients by providing information to promote a healthy and safe lifestyle.
