About The Position

Responsible for providing services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Utilizes resources that may apply to the victim’s immediate needs, either through collaboration with other agencies, law enforcement, the judicial system and/or shelter. Work is performed under the supervision of a Lieutenant. No supervision is exercised over other employees. The hours for this position are 4:00pm-12:00am

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three or more years of related experience working with domestic violence issues.
  • Strong knowledge of the criminal justice and victim services arenas.
  • Ability to provide information and contacts with and about local and area resources for referral.
  • Knowledge of MA general laws 209A and its function.
  • Ability to work with diverse ethnic, cultural and linguistic communities.
  • Strong crisis counseling skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, and to make informed decisions related to victims' positions.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Ability to make calls and speak to judges, officials in other jurisdictions, as well as communicating information and answering questions asked by individuals and families.

Responsibilities

  • Gives crisis counseling, information and referrals, and safety planning to victims of domestic violence.
  • Assists police officers who are first responders on the street and in need of assistance finding shelter and contacting Department of Social Services (“DSS”) hotline.
  • Assists in obtaining emergency restraining orders for victims.
  • Escorts victims to court and various welfare agencies.
  • Administers relevant court paperwork.
  • Meets victims at the hospital to speak with victims or family members of victims.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
