About The Position

This therapist position is with Unity House of Troy’s Domestic & Sexual Violence Program, which provides trauma-informed services to individuals living with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) in supported housing settings. The role recognizes trauma symptoms and understands the widespread impact it may have on individuals and families. The program offers services to individuals living with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) in supported housing settings, using a recovery-oriented and trauma-informed approach.

Requirements

  • LCSW, LMSW, or LMHC (supervision provided for limited permit clinicians).
  • 2–4 years of Master’s-level experience providing individual therapeutic counseling.
  • Comfort facilitating group therapy and working with clients with complex trauma histories.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid NYS Driver License.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with domestic violence, serious mental illness, mental health, or substance use populations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual therapeutic counseling to youth and adult victims of domestic & sexual violence.
  • Provide clinical services to individuals with Serious Mental Illness (SMI) residing in supported housing programs, using a recovery-oriented and trauma-informed approach.
  • Conduct home visits, as well as in-office and telehealth appointments, based on client needs.
  • Assist clients with safety planning, mental health stabilization, and resource linkages, including housing, medical, and social services.
  • Coordinate care with internal programs, supported housing staff, and external community providers.
  • Engage in case planning, documentation, and program development guided by Trauma-Informed Care and best practices for SMI populations.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational and therapeutic groups, as needed.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, including housing providers and behavioral health agencies.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, equity, recovery, and belonging for all program participants.
