Doctor's Assistant - Willing to Train!
About The Position
An Optometric Technician is a valuable asset to an optometrist as they assist in providing a world class Total Patient Experience. This team member is able to handle a wide range of duties while using optical equipment to perform the initial testing needed to prepare a patient for an exam with an Optometrist. The role involves facilitating patient flow, assisting the doctor in preliminary testing, verifying medical and vision insurances, and effectively communicating with patients, doctors, and managers. Responsibilities also include operating various optical equipment, following scripting for testing procedures, cleaning examination equipment, and performing general office duties. The position requires a commitment to creating a positive work environment and meeting business needs, which may include weekends or extended schedules.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year in a position interacting with customers/patients or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Favorable result on background check as required by state
- Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States
- High school diploma or GED required
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
Nice To Haves
- Previous medical office experience preferred
- Previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred
Responsibilities
- Facilitate patient flow
- Assist the doctor in preliminary testing
- Verify medical and vision insurances
- Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers
- Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests
- Embrace and execute our Total Patient Experience to build relationships with all patients while delivering great medical support
- Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA
- Practice urgency at all times placing value on a patient’s time, as well as the doctor’s time and schedule
- Operate manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, autorefractor/keratometer, retinal camera, visual field, GDX or OCT
- Follow scripting for testing equipment (photos, visual fields, visual activity, etc.)
- Clean all examination equipment including tonometer tip
- Ability to interact with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner at all time
- General office duties and cleaning to be assigned by manager
- Consistently creating a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused
- Commitment to work hours that meet the needs of the business which may include weekends, schedule changes or an extended schedule
