About The Position

Saia is hiring a Dockworker in Grayslake, Illinois. The position sorts and handles freight in and out of over-the-road equipment, containers, city trailers, and straight trucks. The Dockworker operates forklifts and pallet jacks to load and unload freight, and handles freight securely and in accordance with applicable regulations and established procedures.

Requirements

• Ability to lift and move objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED.
• Warehouse, freight, dock, forklift, or pallet jack experience.
• Forklift certification or hazmat training.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other equipment in compliance with state, federal, and Department of Transportation regulations.
• Operate dock tools to secure freight properly, including maintaining straps, bars, air bags, cardboard, and dunnage.
• Load, recoup, rewrap, and stack freight as needed.
• Verify shipments by reading labels and properly securing freight for loading and unloading trailers.
• Follow established bill and quality control procedures to support timely, claims-free, and cost-efficient shipments.
• Log, report, and process freight shortages and damages.
• Promote and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
