Training is provided, and the Volunteer Contact and Conservation & Education Department employees are available for questions and assistance. The appointment is based on hours attained over a one-year period and may be reappointed for another year at the supervisor’s discretion. Volunteers must complete training and at least 30 hours during the first year, then 60 hours per year after that. Shifts and schedules vary and are flexible. The role is unpaid. Individuals currently employed at the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium are not eligible. Applicants must be at least 18 and pass a background screening. The dress code is neutral-colored pants or shorts, a provided shirt, comfortable shoes, and weather-appropriate outerwear. The application deadline is February 28th.
