About The Position

The DME Fitter is responsible for providing appropriate bracing services by fitting patients with prescribed Durable Medical Equipment (DME) devices. This role involves managing patient education regarding pricing and insurance coverage, coordinating with the Accounts Receivable Department for payment arrangements, and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of the DME product library. The position also requires prompt response to pre and post-surgical requests, completion of necessary documentation such as letters of medical necessity, and accurate accounting of dispensed products and credits. Additionally, the DME Fitter will manage inventory levels, follow up on missing information for accurate charge processing, and perform other duties as assigned to support the DME program.

Responsibilities

  • Chart entry of required documentation
  • Rotating on-call (after office) hours
  • Provide appropriate bracing services by fitting patient with prescribed DME device
  • Checks insurance benefits and pre-authorizations required by insurance companies
  • Educates patients regarding their individual product’s pricing, insurance coverage and patient financial responsibility.
  • Refers patients to the Accounts Receivable Department to arrange for alternative payment arrangements for patients who are unable to pay for DME.
  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of the DME product library. Able to answer provider and patient questions competently.
  • Responds to pre and post-surgical requests for DME products promptly and effectively
  • Completes appropriate “paperwork” related to DME product such as letters of medical necessity, requests from insurance companies
  • Ensures that all products that are dispensed are accounted for
  • Obtains patient signatures on ABN forms and merchandise receipt forms, as appropriate and fills all appropriate boxes on the superbill.
  • Ensures appropriate and detailed accounting of merchandise and credits.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels for DME products
  • Follows up on any missing demographic or billing information that is necessary for completing accurate processing of charges.
  • Other duties as assigned or are necessary to ensure the success of the DME program
