The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine is seeking an accomplished physician-scientist to serve as the Division Director of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. This division is internationally recognized for its work in antiviral therapeutics, congenital and perinatal infections, vaccine research, and multicenter clinical trials. The faculty have strong NIH and extramural funding, publish in leading journals, and contribute to national policy and clinical guideline development. Pediatric infectious diseases are a core focus of UAB’s strategic plan, I-4ward, highlighting the institution's commitment to advancing discovery, innovation, and impact in this field. The division has a rich history of transformative leadership and groundbreaking research, dating back to the 1960s. The current faculty are highly accomplished and collaborative, with expertise spanning multicenter clinical trials, translational research, epidemiology, global health, and improving healthcare access. There is a significant opportunity for growth with the expansion of research infrastructure, including new wet laboratory space in an upcoming research building. The incoming Director will have the chance to expand research programs, recruit top talent, build integrated programs, and leverage institutional investments aligned with the I-4ward strategic vision.
