About The Position

Buyers Edge Platform is seeking a Division Controller to support our Fresh Division, which includes a portfolio of brands focused on fresh produce and perishable supply chain solutions. This role will be responsible for overseeing accounting operations and controls, and driving scalable accounting processes across a complex, multi-entity environment. The Controller will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of division accounting and reporting, serving as a mentor to junior staff and a trusted partner to the VP of Finance and division and brand leadership. This position is ideally based in our Bannockburn, IL office (hybrid, 3 days/week). We are unable to offer work sponsorship for this role. Who are we? The Buyer’s Edge Platform Fresh Division is an entity comprised of Fresh Concepts, Produce Alliance, Fresh Alliance & Fresh Services with over 35 years of produce management solutions. The Fresh Division provides fresh produce category management services, procurement and contracting, national distribution, freight management, k-12 solutions, technology services, and food safety assurance to food service clients across North America, the Caribbean and beyond. The Fresh Division has a national footprint of over 125+ industry leading distributors in North America, and partnerships with the most premier grower shippers.

Requirements

Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to operate in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including in a supervisory capacity.

Nice To Haves

CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CMA (Certified Management Accountant), or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) certification desirable.

Responsibilities

Lead and develop a high-performing team.
Collaborate cross-functionally on division and brand initiatives.
Serve as a key partner in integrating newly acquired businesses into the division.
Oversee the month-end close process — preparing and/or reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and variance analysis for division/brand accounting.
Maintain and improve processes to support accurate and timely completion of monthly close activities and internal controls.
Ensure adherence to GAAP and the timely completion of account reconciliations in an audit-ready state.
Support division and brand initiatives to improve system and process efficiency and net working capital management.
Identify opportunities to enhance policies and procedures, drive automation, and improve reporting accuracy.
Establish and maintain strong internal controls across accounting processes.
Ensure compliance with company policies, audit requirements, and regulatory standards.
Oversee audit requests for the Fresh Division and support the consolidated audit process.
