About The Position

The College of Medicine – Tucson at the University of Arizona invites applications for the position of Division Chief, Gynecology Oncology, within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This is an exceptional opportunity for a visionary and transformative individual to provide strategic leadership and direction for all planning, policy, operations, and oversight of the administration, clinical outreach expansion, educational, research, and quality assurance aspects of the Division within a matrixed academic healthcare environment. In addition to being a Division Chief, the candidate is expected to practice the full spectrum of gynecologic oncology care including radical pelvic surgery, robotics, and chemotherapy. The Division of Gynecologic Oncology is part of the University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC), the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the State of Arizona. As such, the Division is an active participant in Phase I-III clinical trials. There are many opportunities for collaborative research within the UACC, College of Medicine, and School of Public Health, as well as the other colleges and institutes across the University of Arizona. The ideal candidate will be an excellent clinician, innovative researcher, and enthusiastic educator, who can build upon excellence in existing clinical, teaching, and research programs. They will recognize the importance of developing an engaged and integrated faculty and staff to build and nurture strong cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams. The role will also include participation in the recruitment and retention of Division faculty. Appointment rank is commensurate with experience. The successful candidate will meet the requirements of either a career track or tenure track Associate or Full Professor according to the College and University guidelines. If selected for a career-track appointment, the appointment will not be eligible for tenure. Visa sponsorship is not available for this positions.

Requirements

Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
Board Certified in Gynecologic Oncology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona.
Eligible for a University of Arizona appointment at the Associate or Professor rank.
Advanced surgical skills in the practice of gynecologic oncology, including open, laparoscopic, and robotically assisted surgeries, radical pelvic surgery, and advanced cytoreductive techniques.
Comprehensive knowledge and practice of chemotherapy, targeted biological therapies, immunotherapy, and collaboration with radiation oncology for the treatment of gynecologic malignancies.
Demonstrated skill in the education of residents, medical students, and other learners.
Demonstrated success in the mentorship of junior faculty.
Success in basic, translational, or clinical research, especially in a collaborative research environment.
Thorough understanding of healthcare regulations and compliance, such as HIPPA, Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, medical billing, and medical legal compliance.
Strategic leadership, as demonstrated by the ability to develop a long-term vision, manage division budgets, and align division goals with University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson and Banner University Medical Group.
The ability to recruit and retain faculty by creating a positive and supportive working environment.
Demonstrated experience in quality improvement.
Demonstrated skill in multi-disciplinary collaboration.
Ability to retain composure in high-pressure, high-stakes situations, empathy, ability to listen, resilience.

Nice To Haves

Additional health profession degree (e.g., PhD, MPH, MS, etc.).
Leadership experience at an NIH-designated comprehensive cancer center.
Demonstrated leadership in teaching, clinical care, research, and/or educational enterprises in an academic department of medicine or equivalent environment.
Demonstrated commitment to patient care, reflecting a service-oriented, team-based philosophy with hospital administration and health professional colleagues from all disciplines, departments, and specialties.
Successful track record of recruitment and development of faculty, trainees, and students.
A record of solid performance as a skilled manager with the ability to grow revenues, meet budgets, measure and improve productivity and outcomes, and undertake appropriate business strategies to achieve division, unit, department, and/or enterprise goals in an academic medical arena.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership for the Division’s day-to-day operations and long-term growth, value, and service.
Establish and execute a clear vision that supports innovation and maintains standards of care consistent with the University’s tripartite mission.
Promote collaboration and consensus-building within and beyond the Division by collaborating with the Dean, Department Chair, Banner University Medical Group management, staff, and other physicians to advance institutional goals in research, teaching, advocacy, clinical care, and scholarly activities.
Lead an accomplished team of faculty and mentor trainees, drive the development of clinical programs, and create accountability in the Division.
Model transparency, professionalism, ethical conduct, interdisciplinary collaboration, and commitment to institutional growth.
Advance the Division's clinical, research, education, and service missions, including expanding research education and scholarly activity.
Represent the Division in the areas of financial performance, faculty career development, research, education, and clinical care, while achieving local, regional, and national visibility, and prominence in the subspecialty.
Represent the Department in interdisciplinary conferences and collaborate with other services on gynecology oncology.
Oversee the Division’s faculty peer review.
Directly report to the Department Chair.
Recruit and retain talented faculty to support clinical growth, expand the Division’s research footprint, improve the national reputation of the Division at the University of Arizona and Banner Health, and ensure excellence in the education and training of medical students and residents.
Oversee the Division’s inpatient service and the outpatient clinics.
Provide direct inpatient and outpatient care as a licensed and fully credentialed provider as a member of Banner University Medical Group.
Ensure adequate weekday and call coverage and delivery of timely, high-quality clinical care.
Liaise with other clinical and basic science departments to foster an integrated teaching environment for the College.
Develop and execute a high-impact research agenda aligned with the strategic missions of the College and the University.
Foster and expand research creativity, collaboration, productivity, education, and scholarly activity within the Division, the Department, across the College, and with the College’s key partners.
Ensure faculty meet minimum sponsored-funding expectations.
Collaborate with Academic Affairs and other educational offices at the College to advance the mission of the medical student, graduate student, and graduate medical education teaching programs.
Provide instruction for the residency and medical student educational programs by preparing and administering lectures and reviewing cases.
Develop, implement, supervise, and evaluate the Division’s undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate education programs.
Ensure the Division’s faculty participation in clinical and didactic teaching, as well as mentorship, career guidance, and scholarly projects with learners.
Ensure representation from each Division in the Department’s education committees and learner recruitment.
Support continuing professional development and medical education for faculty and staff.
Maintain program accreditation and ensure the Division meets or exceeds local and national standards of outcome performance.
Ensure effective, efficient operation and the fiscal accountability and sustainability of the Division.
Oversee the Division’s annual budget development with Department Administration and monitor clinical and research revenue, expenditures, and adherence to budget.
Adjust expenditures and staffing as needed to address changes in resources.
Oversee the effective utilization of divisional space.
