About The Position

The Electronic Systems Laboratory (ELSYS) is currently seeking a Division Chief Engineer for the Integrated Space Systems (ISS) Division located in Atlanta, GA. The ISS Division is a multi-disciplinary team of engineers dedicated to advancing space-centric solutions through applied research, rapid prototyping, and smart sustainment. Leveraging diverse expertise across engineering, fabrication and assembly, and operations, the team focuses on developing innovative, mission-driven technologies and transitioning them swiftly from concept to real-world deployment. We excel in integrating complex subsystems and delivering operational capabilities that address evolving challenges in the space domain. The Division Chief Engineer ensures successful technical execution across the division’s portfolio. This is accomplished through a mixture of providing technical oversight, serving as a technical resource, and ensuring that the division’s researchers have the tools, technologies, and processes they need to work effectively and productively. The Division Chief Engineer works with division management, the division chief scientist, and branch management in accomplishing this goal. The Division Chief Engineer demonstrates deep and broad subject matter expertise in the division’s core technical areas. The Division Chief Engineer works closely with researchers to align their technical efforts with the division’s goals and with its investments in personnel, professional development, equipment, and facilities. The Division Chief Engineer maintains connectivity with the broader technical communities to ensure internal engineering practices align with best practices of the larger technical community.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in projects and/or program management
  • Extensive experience in program development, including sponsor relations, writing white papers and leading proposal efforts
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical areas relevant to the Division to include: electronic systems development/fielding, software/firmware development, systems engineering, RF engineering, and electronic systems testing and evaluation
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.

  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • Direct experience performing research on space systems and/or electronic systems in service of a space-centric mission

Responsibilities

  • Help guide division’s technical capability plans by working with division management on the division strategy; create plans to integrate modern technologies into division product lines
  • Ensure division researchers have the tools, technologies, and processes needed to work effectively and productively
  • Serve as a resource to the division for technical challenges arising during project execution
  • Oversee division’s training and modernization investments to ensure they support current and anticipated project work
  • Work with the Lab’s Chief Engineer and the other divisions’ Chief Engineers to ensure engineering consistency and quality across the lab
  • Lead white paper and proposal efforts; serve as point of contact throughout GTRI for collaboration with the division
  • Serve on technical working groups
  • Maintain expertise/familiarization with enterprise engineering and collaboration tools for the division; advocate for use of tools to improve process and collaboration throughout the division
  • Help ensure the division is compliant with ELSYS quality management systems/approaches and associated processes
