About The Position

This leader provides strategic and operational oversight for Billing and Accounts Receivable across the enterprise revenue cycle, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant claim submission, adjudication, and cash collection. The role is accountable for optimizing end-to-end billing performance, reducing denials and days in accounts receivable, and strengthening payer and patient financial interactions. In partnership with clinical, operational, and finance leadership, this individual drives standardization, leverages automation and advanced analytics, and ensures alignment with regulatory requirements and organizational priorities. The leader fosters a high-performing, people-centered culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, and delivering a transparent, seamless financial experience for patients while maximizing organizational financial health. The Division Chair translates Mayo Clinic and Enterprise Revenue Cycle visions into meaningful and effective responses and results. They provide vision and general direction to areas of responsibility and ensure management and staff are trained, developed, and delegated authority to carry out responsibilities and objectives for daily operations. This role participates in strategic planning to support the organization's strategic direction and develops strategic and operational plans to carry out the mission of Mayo Clinic and the Enterprise Revenue Cycle. The Chair possesses overall knowledge appropriate to functions being managed with broad knowledge of theories of professional management. They support and foster opportunities to improve processes and act as a catalyst for realizing these improvements. They also act as a facilitator and generator of new ideas and a mediator on difficult issues, bringing awareness of current external environment issues to the Enterprise Revenue Cycle and Mayo Clinic. Participation in leadership of the Enterprise Revenue Cycle includes chairing and serving on Enterprise-wide projects/groups, task forces, councils, and committees. The Chair serves as a liaison between the Enterprise Revenue Cycle and other departments and agencies inside and outside Mayo. They create a customer service-driven division adept at working collaboratively with physicians and administrative colleagues, and across departments and Mayo Clinic. A team-oriented work environment, including the use of virtual management concepts, is fostered. The Chair develops, coaches, mentors, and encourages staff for future leadership roles for the Enterprise Revenue Cycle and Mayo Clinic, and is responsible for retention initiatives. They may possess and provide specific expertise unique to the Accounting and Revenue business cycles of Finance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (business, healthcare administration or related field).
  • 12-15+ years of applicable revenue cycle operations, revenue metrics and analytics and revenue management experience required.
  • Requires knowledge of accounting systems and insurance issues, healthcare industry issues and trends, legal issues in field of expertise, required third party and governmental guidelines, and work processing.
  • 12+ years of leadership experience in a multi-facility, integrated health care delivery system or consulting experience preferred.
  • Exhibits strong leadership, integration and execution skills with considerable experience in planning, formulating, and execution strategies with the ability to define program, process, or business objectives and scope, while also demonstrating proficiency and expertise to identify, evaluate and articulate operational opportunities, and risks, business needs/gaps, and understand customer/stakeholder interests.
  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively identify, assess and facilitate improvements and resolution to present advisory, persuasive and authoritative recommendation to all levels.
  • Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Exhibits strong, collaborative leadership qualities that can bridge across multiple disciplines.
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals and values of Mayo Clinic.
  • Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorships now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).
