About The Position

The Denver District Attorney's Office is seeking an Adult Diversion Officer to join their team. This role involves interviewing candidates for diversion programs, conducting assessments, developing case plans, referring clients to services, preparing reports, monitoring client progress, and facilitating cognitive/behavioral classes. The position also requires attending trainings, participating in meetings, and organizing work to achieve goals. The ideal candidate is passionate about working with young people, displays initiative, works with minimal supervision, and is proactive with clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in performing case management including completing comprehensive needs assessments and developing and implementing case plans.
  • Or one (1) year of experience in case work and counseling in areas such as Diversion, Probation, alcohol and drug abuse, community based treatment case management, or a closely related area.
  • Experience working with youth or adults and an understanding of community resources.
  • An understanding of the Risk-Need-Responsivity Model to assess and treat offenders.
  • A working knowledge of strategies to reducing recidivism.
  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • An understanding of working with grants and program data collection, and assist the office in reporting outcome measures to grantors on a quarterly basis.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written.
  • Energy to invest the time and effort into program clients who may be resistant to change.
  • Experience working within a team structure and positively contributing to department goals.
  • Valid work authorization that does not require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Interviewing appropriate adult candidates for potential Diversion inclusion.
  • Scheduling and completing intakes with candidates.
  • Conducting assessment interviews with candidates using screening tools to appraise and interpret an adult’s risk factors.
  • Making client referrals to appropriate need-based services upon program acceptance.
  • Developing individual case plans and setting goals with clients using SMART goal format and timeline-based objectives.
  • Referring clients to community service providers for treatment and support following case planning.
  • Maintaining client files and records consistent with departmental policies and local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Preparing recommendations for sentencing and treatment, and recommending action for clients who fail to complete diversion requirements.
  • Ensuring program paperwork and court documents are completed accurately and sent out within required deadlines.
  • Setting supervision meetings with individual clients according to risk level.
  • Completing case notes for all clients using D.A.P. format.
  • Monitoring and verifying clients have completed agreed-upon goals/activities.
  • Motivating clients to change using Motivational Interviewing strategies through the stages of change model.
  • Meeting with clients, family members, and/or other service providers to discuss progress, problems, and solutions.
  • Recommending corrective action for clients in non-compliance.
  • Notifying the District Attorney of client non-compliance and testifying in court as needed.
  • Preparing and conducting various cognitive/behavioral classes, facilitating groups, and developing curriculum.
  • Attending required trainings and/or meetings assigned by supervisor.
  • Serving on committees as delegated and recommending changes to improve services/facilities for clients.
  • Coordinating and/or attending meetings with community-based partners/groups, city personnel, and other governmental agencies.
  • Organizing work, setting priorities, determining resource requirements, setting short or long-term goals and strategies, coordinating with other organizations, monitoring progress, and evaluating outcomes.
