About The Position

CVS Health District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) support pharmacy teams across a district by covering pharmacist scheduling gaps and helping oversee pharmacy operations. Under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager and Rx District Leader, the DSP travels among stores and serves as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during applicable shifts, including when acting as the only or primary pharmacist on duty. The role models CVS Health’s values and supports safe, accurate dispensing, patient counseling, immunization, pharmacy inventory management, and positive patient experiences. DSPs also help expand access to care through pharmacist-delivered clinical services where permissible, maintain current clinical and technical skills, and comply with applicable laws, professional standards, and company policies.

Requirements

Active pharmacist license in the state where the store is located.
Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Not listed on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Ability to travel within a reasonable radius to support market staffing needs.
Ability to complete required training within the designated timeframe.
Ability to concentrate, shift quickly between tasks, and verify prescription information and label accuracy.
Ability to provide friendly customer service, understand patient reactions, and respond appropriately.
Verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients and colleagues, including active listening and accurately conveying detailed instructions.
Ability to use mathematics to solve prescription-dispensing calculations.
Ability to identify challenging interactions and select an appropriate course of action.
Ability to meet the stated physical demands, including standing or remaining upright for extended periods, reaching, repetitive finger movements, stooping, close visual work, and lifting or exerting force as described in the posting.

Nice To Haves

1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.

Responsibilities

Travel within the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled and support staffing needs.
Oversee pharmacy operations and support pharmacy teams; act as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during applicable shifts.
Help manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
Follow and direct the pharmacy team to follow workflow procedures and safety guardrails to support safe, accurate prescription fulfillment.
Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day-to-day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist on duty.
Promote positive patient experiences through compassionate care, collaboration with patients’ healthcare teams, and proactive resolution of insurance or medication issues.
Offer and deliver immunizations, and support Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
Manage pharmacy inventory according to best practices, with particular attention to protecting cold-chain products.
Remain flexible to meet scheduling and business needs and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and engaging team environment.
Maintain relevant clinical and technical skills, complete required training and continuing medical education, and seek opportunities to expand knowledge.
Support access to care and patient outcomes through pharmacist-delivered clinical services, including testing and prescribing services where permissible.
Comply with applicable federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, ethical principles, and CVS Health policies and procedures, including requirements related to patient safety, controlled substances, privacy, security, and workplace safety.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
Complete additional tasks as directed by a Supervisor or Manager.
