About The Position

The current vacancy position serves as a representative of the Public Utilities Commission (PUC) for an assigned county-wide neighbor island district. This role involves conducting field visits with utility/transportation companies, responding to customer complaints, conducting fact-finding, and attempting to resolve problems locally or recommending disposition to the PUC. The position also involves preparing and submitting reports, serving as a liaison with State, municipal, and other agencies and the public, and performing other related duties as assigned. Work involves monitoring, investigating, and reporting on utility and transportation companies for compliance with PUC laws, rules, and regulations; responding to consumer complaints and attempting to bring involved parties to a mutual resolution; and providing information and serving as liaison with local agencies and the public regarding PUC rules, laws, regulations, and requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be a citizen, national, or permanent resident alien of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Two and one-half (2-1/2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience which demonstrated a high degree of analytical skill involving the ability to collect, analyze and evaluate facts; identify problems and alternative solutions and their advantages and disadvantages and develop logical recommendations for a course of action.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret complex material such as State statutes and/or Federal regulations and draft comprehensive reports of findings and conclusions.
  • Experience must have involved narrative report writing and demonstrated the ability to deal effectively with others.
  • At least ONE (1) year of responsible professional work experience which involved significant public contact and demonstrated the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with others.
  • Possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
