About The Position

The Distribution Specialist handles materials shipping to and from The University of Southern Mississippi. The role is responsible for receiving shipments, maintaining the warehouse, handling surplus property, and assisting with property disposal. This position is based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, in the Receiving and Warehousing division.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least three months of experience in a warehouse environment.
• Excellent verbal and social skills.
• Ability to operate a computer and basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Ability to lift 30 pounds regularly.
• Willingness to work in all types of weather.
• Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States full-time without visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree from an accredited college.
• Certified forklift operator.

Responsibilities

• Receive shipments, verify package counts and condition, and collect appropriate documentation.
• Record packages received and delivered in the Track-pad system, obtain signatures as required, and document damage or discrepancies.
• Load and unload trucks, sort items for departmental delivery, deliver items promptly, and obtain signatures as required.
• Accept and document surplus items, organize and store them by category, and maintain records in the surplus property database.
• Process requests for items to be shipped and maintain appropriate documentation.
• Operate vans, trucks, forklifts, and pallet jacks.
• Maintain a neat and orderly warehouse.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
