About The Position

The Distribution Project Planner will assist in the development of strategic project plans, which will help the Company meet its goals. This role involves visiting work sites to collect information and assist with the determination of scope for additions and modifications to Company gas and/or electric facilities. The planner will prepare service orders, field memos, and light construction work orders with designs that conform to Company policies, safety orders, and CPUC regulations. This position requires knowledge of and experience with utility distribution systems, including overhead, underground, and gas systems, as well as CPUC Rules, gas and electric theory, standard practices, and construction calculations. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Geographical Information Systems, MS Office applications, Smartsheet, SAP, and web-based applications is required. The planner will identify site-specific obstacles, communicate this information to customers, and present design options for consideration.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma.
  • 2+ years of experience working on utility distribution system projects.
  • Designer experience (Overhead, Underground, or Gas).
  • Required proficiency in AutoCAD, Geographical Information Systems, MS Office applications, Smartsheet, SAP and web based applications.
  • Moderate experience working with designers, planners and PM’s on matters related to design.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with regards to design approach and decisions made during the design process.
  • In the absence of the Project Manager or Project Designer, able to substitute in project meetings and communicate effectively with regards to the design.

Responsibilities

  • Visits work sites to collect information and assist with determination of scope to enable designs of low to moderate complexity for additions and modifications to Company gas and/or electric facilities from onset through completion of project.
  • Meets with customers to identify specific design limitations, and customer requests.
  • Prepares service orders, field memos and light construction work orders with safe, reliable, and cost-effective designs that conform to Company policies, safety orders, and CPUC regulations.
  • Provides knowledge of and experience with the interpretation and application of design and engineering principals, overhead, underground, distribution, CPUC Rules, gas and electric theory standard practices and construction calculations.
  • Identifies site specific obstacles, relays this information to customers, and presents design options for consideration.
  • Communicates with other project team members in the development of a compliant design according to appropriate standards.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with regards to design approach and decisions made during the design process.
  • In the absence of the Project Manager or Project Designer, able to substitute in project meetings and communicate effectively with regards to the design.
  • Communicates with other project team members and customers in the development of a compliant design according to appropriate standards.
  • Manages design files and functional organization of design comments and iterations.
