About The Position

Leidos Engineering is seeking a (REMOTE) Distribution Planning and Analysis Engineer to join our growing distribution planning team. This position will primarily focus on the execution of distribution planning studies, including feeder capacity assessments, voltage and thermal loading analysis, contingency evaluations, load growth studies, hosting capacity assessments, and distributed energy resource (DER) interconnection impact studies. Additional responsibilities may include arc flash and coordination studies, distribution protection analysis, and self-healing system evaluations as project and client needs dictate. The successful candidate will develop, maintain, validate, and troubleshoot distribution system models using industry-standard planning and analysis software. Responsibilities include performing model quality assurance, investigating study anomalies, validating utility data, and integrating information from GIS, SCADA, AMI, and other utility systems to support accurate and defensible planning recommendations. Studies are conducted for Municipal Utilities, Investor-Owned Utilities, and Electric Cooperatives. The position will involve direct client interaction, presentation of technical findings, and support of business development activities. Candidates should possess strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex study results into practical recommendations for utility clients. Requirements

  • Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or related engineering degree is required.
  • 2+ years of experience in wide-area power system modelling, analysis, and planning, including system impact, power flow, short circuit studies for interconnections on the distribution system.
  • Experience performing distribution studies including power flow, voltage analysis, thermal loading analysis, contingency evaluations, DER interconnection impact studies, hosting capacity assessments, protection and coordination studies, arc flash studies, and time-series simulations.
  • Experience developing, validating, maintaining, and troubleshooting distribution system models and resolving data quality, connectivity, and study result discrepancies.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform technical analyses and execute engineering studies with limited supervision while working under the guidance of senior technical leadership.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard distribution planning and modeling software such as CYME (CYMDIST), Synergi Electric, WindMil, SKM, ETAP, or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate study assumptions, methodologies, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and with geographically dispersed personnel and utility clients.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience utilizing data sources such as GIS, SCADA, AMI, OMS, or asset management systems is preferred.
  • Siemens PTI's PSS/E or GE Concordia's PSLF, EMTP or PSCAD experience is a plus.
  • ASPEN OneLiner or Siemens APA formerly CAPE software experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Python scripting, automation, or data analytics tools is a plus.
  • Experience performing arc flash assessments and other distribution system studies is considered a plus.
  • Experience with distributed energy resource (DER) integration studies, distribution protection systems analysis and coordination, self-healing network configurations, and grid modernization initiatives is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with utility planning policies, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards is also beneficial.
