This position involves advanced semi-skilled, moderate, or advanced technical work in the cathodic protection, construction, maintenance, and repair of mains and services of the natural gas distribution system. The roles are tiered (I, II, III) with increasing levels of responsibility and skill. Mechanic I and II roles are performed under the direct supervision of Mechanic III, with Mechanic II performing multi-functional tasks across all phases of gas operations. Mechanic III may perform lead work, requiring immediate responsibility for a small group of employees, and may be delegated complete authority and responsibility for designated periods. Work performed by Mechanic III requires considerable judgment and knowledge and is under the supervision of the Gas Distribution Foreman. New employees must successfully complete FPUA’s Operator Qualification Program within their first 12 months of employment. The role requires the ability to understand and follow moderately complex instructions, knowledge of safety standards, occupational hazards, and necessary precautions. Additionally, the ability to prepare reports, keep records, and establish effective working relationships is essential. Sufficient physical strength is required for heavy, manual labor within safe limits.
