About The Position

This position involves inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and overhauling pumps, machinery, electrical equipment, piping, meters, and related mechanical equipment used in the City's facilities and systems. The role also includes operating heavy maintenance and automotive equipment for public works infrastructure. This role can be filled as either a Utility Mechanic I or II, depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications. The Utility Mechanic II position requires a Distribution III License and a CDL.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED.
Two years experience in disciplines relating to public works and water utility operations, such as welding, millwright, plumbing, pump repair, pipelaying, heavy equipment operation, and machine operation.
Possess and maintain a valid Class "B" or higher State of Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Intermediate MOT Certificate, assignment in Distribution & Collections.
Tanker Endorsement, assignment in Distribution or Collection, Facility Maintenance, Plant & Lift Stations Maintenance.
Level III Water Distribution License in Water Distribution, assignment in Distribution.
C License in Waste Water or Reclaimed Water, assignment in Collections and Plant & Lift Station Maintenance.
Forty hours of training in pump maintenance or forty hours of course work applicable toward certification as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (CIMM), assignment in Plant & Lift Station Maintenance.
Forty hours of training in facility maintenance trades or forty hours of course work applicable toward certification as Building Systems Maintenance Certification (SMC) through BOMA, assignment in Facilities Maintenance.
Backflow Prevention Assemblies Tester and Repair Certification and Water Distribution System Technician Certification, assignment in Distribution & Collections.

Responsibilities

Installs, maintains, modifies, and repairs a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment in the City's water and wastewater collection, distribution, treatment, and related facilities and systems, including pumps, compressors, valves, motors, engines, controllers, conveyor systems, and mechanical drives.
Performs scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and procedures on various mechanical and electrical components of the water and wastewater systems, as well as other equipment.
Installs and maintains chemical feed systems, including chlorine, caustic soda, alum, methanol, deodorant, methane gas, polymer, and aquashade systems.
Inspects, records, and utilizes charts, dials, gauges, meters, and other monitors to determine pressure conditions, flow and feed rates, and other operating conditions, making routine adjustments as needed.
Performs a variety of service activities related to the water and wastewater distribution and collection systems, such as digging trenches for mains, excavating for services and hydrants, locating valves and blowouts in water mains, and making repairs.
Performs routine electric and/or acetylene welding, brazing, and/or soldering repairs and fabrications as required.
Checks, adjusts, and maintains equipment service records.
Prepares routine reports and maintains daily records and logs.
Reads and interprets blueprints as required to repair, maintain, or build equipment.
Maintains inventory of equipment, spare parts, and other required materials, and initiates orders or recommendations for required parts, equipment, or additional stock.
May standby for and answer emergency calls to repair equipment on an "on call, 24 hour per day" basis.
