About The Position

Entergy Arkansas is hiring a Distribution Designer at one of four levels—Designer I, II, III, or Senior—depending on the candidate’s experience. The position meets with customers to identify electric service needs and designs distribution work to install, replace, or remove facilities for customer requests, reliability projects, and infrastructure improvements.

The role manages multiple projects for new residential and commercial businesses, including customer meetings, overhead and underground line-extension design, cost estimating, construction drawings, and coordination of construction commitments. It also coordinates pre-design and pre-construction meetings, performs engineering calculations for planning and corrective-measure projects, and provides technical guidance on distribution design standards and practices. The position supports right-of-way permitting and documentation and may assist with local or out-of-town storm restoration and damage assessment.

This is an onsite position in Mountain View, Arkansas, with travel of up to 25%. Employees may be asked to work additional hours, at alternate locations, or perform additional duties during storms, outages, emergencies, or other situations as necessary.

Requirements

• Designer I: Meet one of the following: a bachelor’s degree in any discipline; a two-year technical associate degree; one year of electric utility distribution or transmission design experience; more than two years of electric utility field operational experience in transmission line or substation, distribution line or service, or field metering; or approval in lieu of all requirements from a Department Senior Manager or above.
• Designer II: Two years of electric utility distribution or transmission design experience, plus one of the following: a bachelor’s degree in any discipline; a two-year technical associate degree; two additional years of electric utility distribution or transmission design experience; more than two years of qualifying electric utility field operational experience; or approval in lieu of all requirements from a Department Senior Manager or above.
• Designer III: Four years of electric utility distribution or transmission design experience, plus one of the following: a bachelor’s degree in any discipline; a two-year technical associate degree; two additional years of electric utility distribution or transmission design experience; more than two years of qualifying electric utility field operational experience; or approval in lieu of all requirements from a Department Senior Manager or above.
• Senior Designer: Six years of electric utility distribution or transmission design experience, plus one of the following: a bachelor’s degree in any discipline; a two-year technical associate degree; two additional years of electric utility distribution or transmission design experience; more than two years of qualifying electric utility field operational experience; or approval in lieu of all requirements from a Department Senior Manager or above.
• Good interpersonal skills and strong written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge of personal computer operations and related software.
• Knowledge of basic electricity theory and ability to interpret construction drawings.
• Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities, work under pressure, and be a self-motivated, dependable team player.
• Good math skills and familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code and National Electrical Code.
• Work safely, follow Entergy safety policies and procedures, recognize workplace hazards, and mitigate hazards.
• Properly maintain and care for company equipment and safeguard assets.
• Ability to interact pleasantly and tactfully with the public and provide a high level of customer service.

Responsibilities

• Meet with customers to determine electric service needs and requirements.
• Manage multiple distribution projects for new residential and commercial businesses.
• Design overhead and underground line extensions and distribution work to install, replace, or remove facilities.
• Estimate project costs, prepare construction drawings, and coordinate construction commitments.
• Coordinate and lead pre-design and pre-construction meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
• Perform engineering calculations for planning and corrective-measure projects, including load studies, revenue justification, fault current, and voltage drop.
• Provide leadership and technical support to local operations and support contract compliance with distribution design standards and practices.
• Assist the local Right of Way agent with permits and right-of-way documents.
• Assist with storm restoration, locally or out of town, including leading or participating in damage assessment activities.
