About The Position

This role involves performing responsible drafting and technical work in the field or office, preparing dimension drawings, estimates, and maintaining map and operating records. The position requires meeting with customers to determine service requirements, negotiating facility layouts, and proposing service dates efficiently and cost-effectively while adhering to codes, standards, and policies. Responsibilities include conducting field investigations, evaluating service alternatives, determining appropriate standards, preparing construction drawings and estimates, interpreting customer plats, and assisting with engineering calculations. The role also involves designing overhead primary and secondary facilities (e.g., pole jobs, internal jobs, revenue miscalls), communicating and negotiating right-of-way easements and permits, determining clearing needs, and preparing/securing right-of-way documents. Coordination with Entergy departments and personnel is essential, as is approving, releasing, and assisting in creating project designs. Adherence to Entergy's safe work practices and participation in safety meetings are mandatory. Senior Designers are also expected to provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced Distribution Design Helpers.

Requirements

• Must meet all qualifications of Distribution Designer.
• Four years field operations experience (Transmission Line or Substation, Distribution Line or Service, Field Metering or Gas Distribution) and worked 2 years as an Distribution Designer OR Must have qualified and worked 3 years as an Distribution Designer.
• Must Possess a 2 Year Technical Associate Degree or 60 credit hours toward a 4 year degree in a related field from an accredited school and worked 2 years as an Distribution Designer or related work OR Must Possess a 4 Year Technical Degree in a related field from an accredited school and worked 1 year as an Distribution Designer or related work.
• Must have full use of mental and physical faculties.
• Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require.
• Be alert in observing hazards in order to help avoid accidents.
• Be willing to work in unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
• Be able to receive and execute orders and instructions in such a manner as to inspire respect and confidence of superiors and co-workers.

• Be able to utilize all tools (physical and technical) pertaining to this job.
• Authorization to work in the United States is a precondition to employment in this position.

• Under Class 2 and/or 3 supervision, unless otherwise noted below, and following specific instructions as to methods and working details must be able to perform the more elementary drafting, prepare dimension drawings, prepare routine simple estimates, keep map and operating records, and be qualified to do the following and related work in the department to which he is assigned: Under Class 1, become familiar with meeting regularly with external/internal customers to discuss and determine specific requirements to provide service in each situation and negotiate facilities layout, point of service, and proposed service date using the most efficient and cost effective method of meeting the customer’s needs while adhering to existing codes, standards and policies, as related to his work.
• Under Class 1, learn to conduct field investigations; evaluate possible service alternatives, determine the appropriate standards and/or specifications; prepare accurate construction drawings and material/labor estimates; interpret customer survey plats; assist in engineering calculations, tables, layouts, studies, and reports, as related to his work.
• Learn and become proficient in designing overhead primary and secondary facilities. Examples: Pole jobs, Internal jobs, and Revenue (miscalls).
• Become familiar with communicating and/or negotiating right of way easements and/or permits and determine right of way clearing needs.
• Learn to prepare and secure appropriate right of way documents and drawings in accordance with Entergy Standards.
• Learn to communicate and coordinate assigned projects with all Entergy departments and appropriate personnel.
• Approve, release, and assist/create project designs when authorized.
• Follow and adhere to all Entergy safe work practices/policies, which include attending and participating in daily/monthly safety meetings.

Responsibilities

• Meet regularly with external/internal customers to discuss and determine specific requirements to provide service in each situation and negotiate facilities layout, point of service, and proposed service date using the most efficient and cost effective method of meeting the customer’s needs.
• Conduct field investigations: evaluate possible service alternatives, determine the appropriate standards and/or specifications; prepare accurate construction drawings and material/labor estimates; interpret customer survey plats; assist in engineering calculations, tables, layouts, studies, and reports, as related to his work.
• Communicate and/or negotiate right of way easements and/or permits and determine right of way clearing needs. Prepare and secure appropriate right of way documents and drawings in accordance with Entergy Standards.
• Design construction, including external/internal customers, reliability, and section type projects. Exceptions: Large projects such as subdivisions and highway projects that consist of reconductoring will be overseen by Sr. Designers or Management.
• Interpret and document the appropriate tariffs, policies, and procedures related to the Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC) process.
• Serve as the one/point of contact for the customer during the design phase and as needed after the design package has been released for scheduling and construction.
• Communicate and coordinate assigned projects with all Entergy departments and appropriate personnel.
• Creates, approves and releases project designs when authorized.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced Distribution Design Helpers.
• Follow and adhere to all Entergy safe work practices/policies, which include attending and participating in daily/monthly safety meetings.
